Pope is very saddened by the loss of a dear friend and fellow brother in the bond, Eddie Fatu better known as Umaga.
Three years ago while just getting on a role with the WWE, Pope came across a beast, a monster, a hideous creature name Armando Estrada, who just so happened to be managing one of the most gentle and nicest upper card superstars that Pope had ever crossed paths with, whose name was Eddie Fatu. Eddie immediately accepted Pope as a brother in the bond and treated Pope with the same respect that Pope gave him. Not one time did he ever get the big head. Not one time did he ever look down upon those whom he surpassed on his way to super stardom. Eddie was ALWAYS Eddie. Laughing, joking, and having fun was always a part of Eddie's daily work routine, and more importantly he was just a great guy. Seriously!! Pope would not be writing this if it wasn't so. Eddie was TRULY one of the FEW in this business that was great to be around.
I remember when the WWE Draft was taking place. WWE would always keep us in the dark about who was going where in an effort to give the draft a more real and legit feel, even if it meant "working the boys." Well, Pope remembers it well because that's exactly what it did. Umaga ended up being drafted from RAW to Smackdown. This placed a huge smile on his face of "The Samoan Bulldozer" and was cause for celebration as it would allow him to travel with the Smackdown/ECW crew where all of his friends were, especially Rey Rey. I remember Umaga high fiving and laughing; going over to hug Rey in anticipation of what was to come by being on the same traveling squad. Then, it happened. They drafted Rey to RAW, and all of the happiness that was in the air disappeared faster than a thong worn by Ball's Mahoney (Gawd Awful Image).
My point of sharing that story is simply this: Eddie was a person that loved having a great time, and wanted to be around people who felt the same way. He loved his family and cherished his friends, and more importantly, HIS FRIENDS cherished him. R.I.P Eddie Fatu, you will be missed. ~ PHS
